Now that most if not all practices have been closed for several weeks, many of our clients have asked what effect this will have on their plans to market and sell their practice. What has become apparent is that the Government is supporting businesses as far as they can throughout the shutdown. One side effect of this is that practices with NHS contracts have come into focus and are lilkey to be in greater demand than previously. Whereas the consensus before was on growth and therefore private dentistry, now it is on survival, and the NHS are continuing to support practices as they still receive their monthly income even whilst closed.
During this time, Associates who are, by and large, self employed, will not be earning so will not need to be paid on performance, so effectively NHS practices are to a certain extent becoming cash rich. It is generally felt that demand for NHS practices will be stronger than before when services return to some sort of normality.
